THE SECRET OF SUCCESS IN MARRIAGE

(Family Success - 2010-04-04)

Today is Easter Sunday, a day when Christians celebrate the death and resurrection of Christ. As you celebrate, don't forget that Christ is the reason for the season. I Wish You A Wonderful Easter!

God designed marriage and family to be successful. It's important for you to know that success in all areas of life is not a gift. It's neither a product of luck nor chance. It does not just happen. It takes conscious, deliberate and calculated steps to realize success in any adventure, marriage inclusive. This is why this new month, I shall be taking you through what I titled, The Secret Of Success In Marriage..

For this week, I will be teaching on a foundation for success in marriage --- Laying your foundation on the Rock. The foundation of a building determines to a very large extent what happens to it, and whether that building will last long or not. Every house is as strong as it's foundation. If something fundamental goes wrong with the foundation, very little can be done to sustain the building. Invariably, this is applicable to marriage. For your home to be sustained, you must lay your foundation upon the Rock --- Jesus Christ.

How do you lay the foundation of your marriage upon the Rock? It is by making Jesus Christ the central focus in your home and allowing Him to take His rightful place. If you are married and you are not yet born again, you must accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you are already born again, whatsoever He tells you to do, do it (John 2:5).

Laying your foundation on the Rock also means ruling your home with the Word of God. This is because Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1). How much room do you give the Word of God in your home? If you pattern your home after God's Word, then your home is built on the Solid Rock, and it shall surely be successful. If your home is not built on God's Word, then it is without a foundation. Such a home cannot be successful, no matter what anybody tries to do to help! If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? (Psalm 11:3).

Truly, the righteous can do nothing, once the foundation is destroyed. Do not let the foundation of your home be destroyed. Do not attempt to run your home outside Jesus Christ and expect to make it. Jesus is the only sure foundation; lay your foundation on the Solid Rock, and success shall be your portion.

God is the foundation for success in your marriage. But when the foundation is faulty, no matter how righteous you may be, your home cannot stand.

The foundation of the Word of God is very vital to a successful home. God's Word says: Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them... is like a man which built a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock...(Luke 6:47-49).

Knowing the Word of God is not enough, applying it is what makes it produce results for you (James 1:22). Knowledge is in hearing; but it is mere information until it is put to practice. If you want to enjoy success in marriage, you must be a diligent student of the Word, studying and practising it, as it is what holds the key to an exciting and successful marriage. All things including marriage, are upheld by the Word of God (Hebrews 1:3). God is power, and He upholds all things, including your home, by His powerful Word. Once God's Word is given its rightful place in your home, it is built on a sure foundation, which must stand.

Success in marriage depends on the place you give to God and His Word in your home. The more of Him you have, the more of peace, joy, happiness and sweetness you enjoy in your home. To enjoy God's best in your marriage, you must make Him the centre of your home. You must be ready to give Him priority place, recognizing Him as the foundation for a successful marriage.

The right place to begin from is a personal relationship with God, through Jesus Christ. This is done by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. If you are ready for this new birth experience, please say this prayer: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Now I know I am born again!

If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and He will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God's Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
